Flyover in Dhaka City

Dhaka is the 11th Mega city in the world where more than 20 million people are living. Due to high volume of people and vehicles and low space of road, traffic jam is a common and vital problem here. Actually it’s occurring mainly in intersection of road. So avoid the conflicts and reduce the jam Grade separation are the most effective and common way. Flyover is one of the popular for grade separation and helps to reduce the jam. In this city has also a couple of flyovers constructed during the last few years.  One is Mohakhali flyover and the other is Khilgaon flyover. After completed those two flyovers Dhaka city did not saw any flyover for ling time, recently a few more flyovers are constructed.

Recently Dhaka city gets 2 big flyovers, one is Mirpur-Airport Road flyover at Banni and another is Mayor Hanif flyover at Saidabada-Jatrabari and Kuril flyover also ready for unveiling. you can read this article for Dhaka flyover news.

Mohakhali Flyover is the first in Dhaka city and 2nd one is Khilgaon Flyover is now extending one more loop at Saidabad side. Right another flyover, Moghbazar mouchak in this city which is under construction.

 Mohakhali Flyover:

This is the first flyover in Dhaka city according to unveiling yet project was started after Khilgaon Flyover. Project was started at 19 December, 2001 and opening date was 4 Nov, 2004. Its situated at Mohakhali, Dhaka which is connected to Jahangir Gate to Banani road. Length is only 112km and width is 17.9 m. Actually it should be an overpass. It will be better if possible to extend to the Tejgaon end.

Khilgaon Flyover:

This was the  first project of flyover in Dhaka which is situated at Khilgaon, Dhaka. It was unveiling at 23 March, 2005. Length is 1.90km and width is 14m. It has 4 lane and 3 loops.

Kuril Flyover


Kuril Flyover situated at Kuril, has 4 loops ( Banani, Kuril, Khilkhet and Purbachol) and total length is 3.1km. By this flyover traffic jam are reducing tremendously at Bisshoroad.

Mirpur-Airport Road Flyover:

 This Flyover is situated at Zia colony and have total 4 loops with an overpass. Total length is 4.1km and width is 15.52m. First it was opened partially and opened fully for all at 23 march, 2013.

 Mayor Hanif flyover

Now this is the largest flyover in Dhaka and first flyover project which is completed through PPP. so this is not free for all like others. It was unveiling partially at 11 October, 2013. Total length of this flyover is 11.8km.
